DIY Conch Shell Centerpiece

Milena Kukurekovic

Hello Smarties! How have you been? I thought of discussing some centerpiece ideas you can use for your events with you all today. I think centerpieces are an excellent method to set the mood for any occasion. Your guests will be amazed to see the arrangements and feel so special. So, without further ado, let's get to our first centerpiece idea.

DIY Conch Shell Centerpiece

So I happen to LOVE succulents. Seriously, it's becoming a problem. I have them all over my house. They are so resilient that they practically take care of themselves, need little maintenance, and propagate quickly. They might be the perfect pet plant for those who don't have a green thumb. You'll find these little cactus family members growing all over the rocky beaches in Mexico. I also love seashells and conch shells. My love for both items made me think of ways to include them together. That's when I realized they are an excellent choice for a coastal-themed DIY conch shell centerpiece.

Well, that was me gushing about two of my favorite things. Below are the materials you will need to make a conch shell centerpiece.

Materials needed:

  • 1 large conch shell
  • 1 small block of floral foam
  • Toothpicks
  • Succulents
  • Moss

Directions you need to follow:

Step 1: Trim the block of floral foam enough to fit inside the conch shell. Slather the inside of the conch with glue if you want this to be permanent. I wanted my shell back in its original form when this was over, so I didn't use glue. Once the foam fits snugly, stuff it right in!

Step 2: Cover the block with moss or any other material you might want to use to keep it invisible. I used moss and once again did not use any glue; however, if you are using this for an outdoor event where it could be windy (such as on a beach), I highly recommend using glue (but not hot glue) to secure the moss.

Step 3: Next, trim off the succulents you want to use in your centerpiece. They come in various varieties, and you don't have to worry about them wilting overnight; keeping them refrigerated or water will do the job (like I said, SUPER easy). Trimming off the leave of a succulent is a good idea. Because it can be used to grow a whole new plant! Poke a toothpick through the bottom of each plant.

Step 4: Start arranging your cute plants by sticking the other end of the toothpicks into the floral foam in any pattern you like.

Seashells in the Water

This centerpiece will be more suitable for a beach-inspired event. You will need a vase or a carafe, water, seashells, and a floating candle to make this. First, keep the vase on the table where you plan to place this centerpiece. Then put the seashells inside the vase. After that, fill the container with water. Finally, place the candle inside the vase and light it up!

Light In A Jar

We all know candles placed inside a jar look magical. With this idea, you can take that look to another level. Find some twine, colored seashells (uncolored will work too), jars, candles, and glue. First, wash the jars you will use thoroughly. Keep in mind to remove any visible stickers. Then glue the seashells onto the outer side of the jar. After you are done, the entire jar will be covered with the shells. Then grab the twine and wrap it around the mouth of the jar, or else it'll look plain. Then place your candle inside the jar and light it up. You can replace the candle with LED lights or fairy lights.

Colored Water Bowl

This budget-friendly centerpiece idea is for my plant-loving smarties. You will need a bowl, water, an aquatic plant (preferably with the flower), and coloring. Depending on the theme of the wedding, you can choose the color to tint the water. For example, we colored our water blue. Mix the tint into the water. Then pour it into the bowl. Gently place the aquatic plant inside the bowl, and you are done.

Wine Cork Centerpiece

Lovelies, to make this pretty easy centerpiece, you will only need glue, wine corks, and a vase (We used a cube-shaped vase, we are yet to experiment with other shapes). What you need to do is cover the vase with wine corks with the help of glue. You can glue along the wine corks vertically to the vertical points. Then, glue the corks horizontally for the horizontal points. Pour water until the vase is ¾ full, and then place the flowers inside. You can also opt for a vase with greenery! This centerpiece is suitable for rustic weddings and events.

Wood Planter And The Beach

This centerpiece is a beach-inspired one. The materials you will need to assemble this centerpiece are craft sand, seashells, wood planter, pearls, faux starfish, and faux seaweeds. First, fill the planter with the craft's sand. Can't you use the sand from the beach? Of course, you can, but there's no guarantee for the cleanliness, is there? Then all you have to do is arrange the seaweed, starfish, shells, etc., in any way you like. You can also place a vase filled with water and seashells in the wood planter. When doing so, try to bury a little bit of the bottom part of the vase in the sand. Or else the vase will look out of place. Next, place a floating candle in the vase and light it up to complete the look.

Tree Branch As a Centerpiece

Tree branches have an aesthetic look to them. So why not take it up a notch by decorating them? To make this centerpiece, you will need a wood plaque, thin branch, fairy lights, and flowers. First, attach the branch to the plaque, and let it dry. Then decorate it by intertwining lights and flowers.

Fruits And Veggies

This centerpiece idea is more suitable for a rustic wedding. However, if you are using the table runner instead of a table cloth, you should give this idea a try. First, gather seasonal fruits and greens. Then arrange them along the runner in an aesthetic manner.
