DIY: Treasure Chest Party Favors
Smarties, don't we all love a good party? The delicious food, the fun party games, the silly photos taken, quality time spent with friends and family, we live for them! What else do we love about a party? Party favors! To answer the smarties who don't know what party favors are, they are gifts the party hosts give to the guests. Why? Party favors are given to show gratitude for the attendance of the guests. Party favors can be expensive or inexpensive, store-bought or handmade, depending on the host's preference. You may receive toys, snacks, candy, pencils, trinkets, and other small gifts from a birthday party, a casual party, and unique yet small parties.
Here's the thing about party favors, people love them! So today, we have got some party favor ideas for our smarties. So at your next party, send your guests away with a party favor.
Finding the Davy Jones' Locker
We hosted a pirate-themed party, and we sent our guests off with a chest. So our first-party favor idea is a mini treasure chest filled with goodies.
Let us gather the things you will need to make this party favor first, shall we?
You will need:
- Mini treasure chests
- Twine
- Chocolate coins
- Blank white paper
- Card stock
- Teabags
- Matches/lighter
- Scissors
- Single hole puncher
Here's how to put together a goodie-filled mini treasure chest:
Step one: Buy a mini treasure chest for each guest.
Step two: Cut the card stock into short strips, approximately 2" x ½" (one per guest)
Step three: Write your name and the date on each card stock strip. You can also include your guests' names and use the boxes as place cards.
Step four: Punch a hole in the top left corner.
Step five: Cut the twine into approximately 3" inch pieces. (You need one piece of string per box)
Step six: Cut white paper into four even squares. Cut enough paper so that you will have one square per person.
Step seven: Burn the edges of all the paper squares either over the stove or using matches/lighter. This should be done either near or over a sink.
Step eight: Soak tea bags and run them across the pages until they are stained yellow. Then let the papers dry.
Step nine: Roll them up and tie them with twine when the papers are dry. These are meant to look like little treasure maps. If you want to be extra creative, make a treasure hunt and write up a map on paper.
Step ten: Attach one card stock tag to each paper roll by placing one end of the twine through the hole punched. Tie a knot at the end.
Step eleven: Finally, fill the chest with chocolate coins, put the 'map' inside, and close.
Easy right? Here's where we bought the thighs we used to make our party favors.
You can find the mini treasure chests at Favors and Flowers.
Twine can be purchased at almost any arts and crafts store, such as Michaels. You can also find some at Walmart.
Kinkos sells blank white paper, as well as card stock.
